5 K Finish

Running Accomplishments:

I started Runner's World beginning runners program (run 30 min. without stopping in 8 weeks) on Oct. 24, 2011. I was able to run a 5K without stopping 4 1/2 weeks later in 39 min. Soooo slow--but I did it! I've only missed 1 day of running (the day of the BIG WIND) since.

Short-Term Running Goals:

I want to run several 5Ks. I want to be able to run 3 miles in 30 min. I would really like to be able to run a 10K. I want to keep running every day!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to keep in shape so I can always keep up with my kids on the hike up to Cleo's Bath on Sonora Pass.

Personal:

I'm married with 7 incredible children. I work at home while keeping very involved in my 2 teenage boys' activities. I have an amazing husband who constantly cheers me on!

Treadmill, all at an incline of 8.5-10. Jake serenaded me with his organ practicing.

Soooooo hard to get out today. But, the dog has been driving me crazy and I need a day where she sleeps all day, so I needed to get out. And, I remembered that no one who goes running is ever sorry when it's through--so true. So glad it's done! I'm REALLY looking forward to the Sweethearts 5K on Saturday!

Note to kids: I LOVE my GPS watch that you gave me for Christmas! It's the BEST! I'm more disappointed on bad weather days to not be able to use my watch than I am to have to get on the treadmill! Thank you!

Note to husband: I thought you said it was just over 2 mi. to get home from your office. My very cool GPS watch said it was just .64 mi. What a disappointment! Somehow, it seemed much longer than that.

Note to self: Be sure and check GPS watch to make sure you restart it after stopping it when picking up dog's poop.

Note to dog: It would be so helpful if you would learn to take care of business before we go out! I guess we both had stupid days today!

Yay! What a fun race! My kids came to meet me for the last 1/4 mi., cheering me on and helping me to finish strong. I dropped over 5 min. from my last 5K on Thanksgiving, and finished 5th in my age division, up from 14th last time. Next race--Thanksgiving Point 5 K April 28. Goal--try to finish in under 30 min. I will have to do some serious higher intensity training to make it--but I'm sure I can get there!

I left the dog home today so I could concentrate on my "foot strike" (?). Apparently hitting with the heel isn't good, and it seems that's what I do. So I tried to strike on the ball of my foot. It wasn't too bad for the first half, but much harder to maintain on the second half when I was starting to get tired. Josh is having me watch running champions in show motion so I can try to get it right.

Also, Eric says my shoes are much too small. I have a hard time with shoes because my left foot is a full (or more) half size larger than my right foot (freak!) so if there's any room left in my left shoe my right shoe will be huge. So we'll have to work that out. I'm determined to run the Thanksgiving 5K in under 30 min., and I have time to work for that.

The weather was GREAT today!

2 loops on Main Street--nice, interesting route. Very gentle uphill going south, then back, twice. Next time--3 loops. 2.3 mi. in 25 min.--better pace. Working towards that 3 mi. in 30 min.

Light snow falling this morning throughout. I ran a new route in Centerville that I liked--will probably expand on that later this week. The dog is cooperating very nicely--only touched my legs once or twice today. Yay! And she is just sooooo nice the whole rest of the day when she goes out with me. Great start to a great day!

Best day ever! I had to leave Sunny home because she has a sore foot pad, so I was able to run without stopping for poop duty. 2.55 mi. in 27.5 min! And that includes the grueling uphill past the cemetery. Perfect weather--31', sunny, birds singing. Total: 3.28 mi. for today. Yay!

Liberty Park should have been amazing--would have been amazing--except for this blasted dog who I had to stop for 3 times. She was waaaaaay too interested in all the other dogs and people. That probably would have been my first time ever to run a level course. I'm going to do it again, soon, and LEAVE HER HOME! Planning on getting a PR then--that's where I'm going to do my first ever 3 mi. in under 30 min. I'll be back there in a couple of weeks!

Treadmill--total drag. Even 24 couldn't make it much better.

I should have checked the wind chill factor--30' with 15 mph wind=19'. First time my ears were cold--better short run than non at all. Can't wait for spring!

The first 1.82 mi. ran in 18 min., then hit the hills. Total 34 min.
